Global Interior Design London - Blog

As the winter approaches, my watchword for bathroom design is always “cosy.” As the London rain turns into sleet and freezing London fog, my clients just want spaces in which they can feel pampered. In wintertime, I like to think of my bathroom designs as part of a broader effort to create the perfect haven. One can easily understand a client’s need for calm and tranquillity with an extended relaxation period in the bathtub or an invigorating massage shower. As we approach London’s coldest months of the year, I see my role as a bathroom designer as creating a space that will remain appealing during even the severest spells of frost or snow.

It is critical to grasp the concept of hue in the washroom area. Because London’s short days see even less light during colder weather, it is essential for the bathroom designer to keep those colourless skies at bay by choosing a fresh bright background. For north-facing London bathroom designs, I try to focus on a warmer colour scheme, perhaps by including hints of papaya, tamarillo or whortleberry.

Sometimes these bathroom design colours may seem slightly too forward, in which case I might recommend more subdued metallic options to my discerning London clients. Glinting wallcoverings with golden printed cloth can provide a suggestion of incandescence and grandeur, casting brightness throughout the bathroom design to stunning effect.

The bathroom designer’s choice of floor covering will powerfully impact the general look and feel of the room. If the bathroom design features ceramic or clay tiles, I always think it best to steer clear of clinical white colours and instead focus on ivory and camel – this helps to build in neutral hues from the warmer side of the colour wheel. Many London bathroom designers will also recommend underfloor heating, which can be a real benefit this time of year.
