Global Interior Design London - Blog
Just yesterday I was sitting in a prestigious London salon, getting my hair restyled for the festive season. Even a busy interior design professional enjoys getting a new look now and again! Anyhow, my stylist was telling me all about how lighting interacts with actresses’ hairstyles on film or TV sets. His comments immediately got my mind whizzing about the role of light in building drama for interior design concepts.
I reflected that, for the interior design professional (as for the London TV producer or hair stylist), lighting is all about providing focus. Without it, even London’s best interior design concept can feel drab and flat. Interior designs are not supposed to be for static places – properly illuminated focal points should draw the eye along a storyline, giving energy and velocity, while also taking a favourite object or sculpture into the limelight. In the same way, the lighting-based “interior design” of a TV set or movie backdrop follows exactly the same set of concepts. Another great example of how London continues to be a world-class city for the intersection of interior design and the motion picture industry.
