Global Interior Design London - Blog
Hello, it’s Beatrice here … and this is my first ever blog entry! We redesigned the G.I.D. website, and I thought that now is the time to “let the blogging begin”! I visit so many interior design websites, and I’ve been struck by how few designers are blogging and sharing their ideas online. What better way to change that than to start right here!
Today, I want to tell you about a recent G.I.D. project where we needed to re-imagine a kitchen in a South-West London flat. The property belongs to a young professional couple who work long hours in the City. The kitchen had a spacious layout but its potential was seriously compromised by the lack of colour and the tired look of the cupboards, tiles, and wall coverings.
The homeowners brief for this project was to combine functionality and style, on a tight budget.
We turned to a furniture emporium to help us out with some affordable built-in cabinets and a new grey worktop. We chose their top-of-the-range high-gloss white finish for a sleek, contemporary look for the cabinet frontings. The laminate worktop features a brushed aluminium finish for a unique look and feel.
We replaced all kitchen appliances and on this occasion we were able to pass on a 30% trade discount to the clients. Accordingly, we were able to make the purchases from a high-end manufacturer who offered a 10 year parts and labour warranty for the washing machine and a 5 year p&l warranty for the dishwasher.
For a touch of class, we sourced a beautiful, large, off-white, high polished porcelain floor tile to bring a new shine into the room. My use of electric underfloor heating will definitely bump up the prices for any future sales or rental opportunities. Plus it makes the homeowners’ feet feel quite toasty in what was previously a slightly drafty and uninviting space.
As for the lighting, we decided that the way to turn this kitchen into a chef’s high-end hideaway was to add a false ceiling and a set of recessed GU-10 spotlights housed in attractive adjustable brushed chrome fixtures. Additional light sources are on the cooker hood and under the wall cabinets.
The homeowners were absolutely thrilled with the finished project!
Well that’s all for this blog entry! Look out for our next edition, where I’ll tell you all about a bathroom redesign I’m working on right now with a few very interesting and informative features. If redesigning your bathroom is on your mind, this will be an absolutely essential read! Sounds exciting!? It definitely is.
